How to Care for Your Pet after Surgery
Read Carefully

For 7-10 days:

Your pet should be kept inside where it can stay warm, dry, and his or her stitches will stay clean.

Restrict your pet’s activity during the recovery period.
Do not allow your pet to run, jump, play, swim, or do any other strenuous activity during this recovery time.

Check the incision site twice daily.  There should be no drainage, and only a slight redness or swelling.

Do not allow your pet to lick or chew at the incision.
If this happens
you will need to purchase an Elizabethan collar for them to wear to prevent this.  These collars are sold at pet stores.

Do not change
your pet’s food during recovery.

We recommend that your pet visit its regular vet
after recovery to do a follow-up exam.

If you have any questions during the 7-10 days, please call Wally’s Friends at 423-877-9966.  If there is an after hours emergency, please call the River emergency hospital in Chattanooga at 423-698-4612.

Your pet will have a green tattoo next to their incision site.
This is not an extra stitch.

If the above after surgery instructions are followed in full
, Wally’s Friends will treat at their clinic, at a minimal cost, any after surgery complications resulting directly from the surgery

Your regular vet must address illnesses or injuries
that are not a direct result of surgery.

Please call for an appointment as soon as you see a concern,
if you pet must return to Wally’s Friends,

Wally’s Friends or Animal Alliance-South Cumberland will not be held responsible for complications resulting from failure to follow after surgery instructions, or for contagious diseases for which your pet was not previously properly vaccinated.
